Tonal Splitting

So i was watching robocop-3 and stumblead upon one of the greatest shots whch apear too rarely(one wass in the lexx season 4) so i decided to analyze it. here's a recipe for a good shot. using levels you can easily apply it to your photos and etc.

For better workflow: first compress the input to clip off empty tone areas, and then shift it on the output.

Shape Inversion

for inversion leading shape is needed. 

Every object is defined and percieved by the space thats surrounds it, and by the size relation to other objects. Big space= bigger egoism, trees with large roots require more space. sun shines so bright ir requires lots of empty space around it.

even objects composed of other objects conform ot this feel. a door in house needs more space than other it parts because people go through it. space is defined by object movements, and it internal scaling.

Eye Sights

For long time i could not understand what is that people find in lots of pictures. now i see.
There are two kinds of eyesights:
1. Instanteous.
2. Wandering.

I think most of people usually use wandering type which makes eye to travel around picture and admire with details. Me was using instaneous, when eyes are focused in one point, or travel very fast along big distances to take lots of instant grasps.
Wandering eyesight can consume us and it's kinda oblivious.
Instaneous can "teleport" us into picture, make live it and feel it inner power, even if it was not in mind of painter.
But. Paintings done with only instant sight in mind can hardly be admired more than at a glance, and that caused me to fail.
Combine Instant and Wandering sights and Viola it would be awesome work!.

contrasts of color.

i think i wanted to speak about color contrast right?
so black vs white creates contrast.
and so red vs cyan, blue vs yellow and any other color vs opposite creates contrast.
it can be many sided as colors form one looped octave.

There is also a trick when grey color put next to non-grey color appears as opposite. i think it because eye auto adjustes. yet black doesnt appear opposite. only color with similar value does.

You should see the cyan stripe very clearly, but it is not there. Grey just smoothly fades to red.

Another thing is in the outer viewfield. Peripherial vision percepts colors in richer val and sat contrast.

Corona effect

Color in the middle feels like color on the right, but actually its the same as the background.

Brain-Integrated Color Filtering

When i just started s an artist or designer, I've read about interesting exercise which helps to memorize colors.
You look at the object and try to find objects of the same color around you. Having practiced that in a while has given me good results, i became able to pick color of objects more correctly, and memorize color of my surroundings more precise. After a year i tried to practice it once more, and to my surprise it worked differently, i looked at an object, and by brain instantly flashed oll objects of the same color, like i was looking at b/w photo with only one non-gray color left(like color accentuation), but surroundings were still colored.

And that give me a thought, in the game, one kind of objects must be of the same color, and it should be distinguishable from other colors of the world, otherwise, if they differ very little, in color the begin to melt with environment and became indistinguishable.
